Warehouse Driver

Summary: 

Drive truck and trailer combination to deliver or pick up materials in compliance with USDOT regulations. Load and unload vehicle. Obtain appropriate signatures upon delivery.    

 

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Maintain CDL driver’s license, required medical authorization, and good driving record.

  • Maintain copies of registration, US DOT number, insurance, and EnXL emergency contact list in vehicle.

  • Check vehicles and trailers prior to each trip to ensure mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.

  • Load and unload trucks and trailers at warehouse and destination.

  • Verify the contents of inventory loads against shipping papers.

  • Follow safety procedures for transporting materials and goods.

  • Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure.

  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew and checking to ensure vehicle and loading equipment are properly positioned.

  • Secure cargo for transport, using ropes, blocks, chain, binders, or covers.

  • Maintain logs of driving hours and of vehicle service or repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.

  • Maintain emergency flares and reflectors.

  • Check all load-related documentation for completeness and accuracy.

  • Collect delivery instructions, verify instructions and routes.

  • Check conditions of trailers after contents have been unloaded to ensure that there has been no damage.

  • Perform emergency repairs, such as changing tires or installing light bulbs, fuses, tire chains, or spark plugs.

  • Drive vehicles and trailers within capacities to transport materials.

  • Deliver materials safely and in good condition.

  • Obey traffic laws and follow established traffic and transportation procedures.

  • Couple or uncouple trailers by changing trailer jack positions, connecting or disconnecting air or electrical lines, or manipulating fifth-wheel locks.

  • Promptly report any mechanical problems encountered with vehicles.

  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance tasks, such as adding oil, fuel, or radiator fluid or performing minor repairs.

  • Plan or adjust routes based on changing conditions, using computer equipment, global positioning systems (GPS) equipment, or other navigation devices.

  • Load or unload trucks or help others with loading or unloading, using special loading-related equipment or other equipment as necessary.

  • Remove debris from trucks and trailers.

  • Plan route prior to driving.

  • Turn in receipts and deliveries tickets weekly or more frequently as needed.
     

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Commercial Driving School, current CDL

  • Current Medical

  • Experienced Truck Driver

  • Principles and methods for moving goods by truck and trailer

  • Knowledge of USDOT Regulations

Requirements:

  • Work requires alert individuals with good balance and physical strength

  • Work during inclement weather, could be exposed to extreme cold and heat, noise and dust from construction operations depending upon delivery project site.

  • Frequently lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 50 pounds of material and up to 90 pounds of material with assistance, if requested.

  • Frequently walking, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.

  • Sitting during long drives periods. 

Travel: 

This position requires regional deliveries, meetings, and training, and possible overnight stays. The job may also involve participating on unscheduled call-outs and extended workdays and/or workweeks.

 

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Subject to varying outdoor elements: heat, rain, and cold. 

  • Exposure to noise. 

  • Physical ability to kneel, lift, pull and push, reach, crouch, stand, stoop, walk, talk and lift.
