Lightning Protection Installer

Summary: 

Install lightning protection equipment at oil and gas production facilities and SWDs according to design and the manufacturer’s specifications.  

 

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Assist foreman to complete project as designed. 

  • Read and follow installation plans, material lists, manufacturer specifications and guidelines.  

  • Read and interpret installation drawings and plans.  

  • Assist in identifying, correcting, and documenting unsafe behaviors and near misses. 

  • Assist in organizing field generated documentation including JSAs, permits, and test reports. 

  • Perform inspections of in-progress work and identify corrective actions. 

  • Track and complete punch list items throughout the installation phase to commissioning.  

  • Pickup and deliver installation material. 

  • Review bill of materials and installation drawings for accuracy prior to installation. 

  • Maintain a clean and well-organized installation site, free of hazards and trash. 

  • Participate in project reviews. 

  • Understand oil and gas production processes and equipment.  

  • Understand proper installation of lightning protection equipment. 

  • Understand proper use of PPE, Fall Protection equipment inspections, and maintains training credentials required for installation projects. 

  • Understand and comply with onsite conduct and safety requirements of Clients. 

  • Operate equipment to trench shallow ditches to prep ground for install. 

  • Use fall protection for manlift, ladders, and walking surfaces during install from heights. 

  • Install external and internal dissipaters, ground wires, ground rods, and windsocks on equipment using brackets, u-bolts, mounting brackets and flanges, with impact drivers and ratcheting tools. 

  • Test equipment for proper installation using ohm or voltmeter.  

  • Understand the hazards and risks of working on a facility with hydrocarbons, and uses proper tools and equipment to eliminate or mitigate the hazards and risks.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Degree or equivalent, may substitute with five years relevant experience in construction trades or oil and gas

  • Three years general knowledge and relevant experience in oil and gas or construction trades/methods

  • Fluent Bilingual

  • Light computer skills

  • Lightning protection installation methods (preferred)

  • Experience and general knowledge of oil and gas production equipment

  • Understand and can follow engineer drafting designs

  • Mathematical reasoning

  • Understands mechanical principles and familiar with common parts, materials, and equipment

  • Knowledgeable in heavy lift best practices

Setting/Physical Requirements

Indoor/Outdoor setting in all types of weather. Requires lifting up to 50 pounds, and up to 90 pounds of material with assistance, if requested. Repetitive movement, using hands to handle, control, or feel objects, tools or controls, standing, walking and running. Frequently walking, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Noise and dust.

Travel: 

This position requires regional travel for project assignments, meetings, and training, and possible overnight stays.
